The Kangaroo Island Driving Wave
Once you depart from the ferry in Penneshaw and start to drive around the Island, you will notice that there are fewer people on the road compared to the mainland.
So, when you come in contact with another fellow traveller on the road there is an unwritten rule on the Island's roads which is referred to as The Kangaroo Island courtesy wave.
The Kangaroo Island courtesy wave is a simple gesture to thank a fellow driver, cyclist or pedestrian for being courteous and considerate on the road. This can be expressed in a number of ways from an elaborate hand wave out the window to a more subtle head nod.
Keep an eye out for the Kangaroo Island courtesy wave next time you're passing a fellow traveller on the road... and be sure to return the gesture!
